NYC Climate March
It’s a little hard for me to convey the emotion and the energy of the 250 thousand citizens at the NYC Kid’s Climate March. The noise ebbed and flowed. For Teri and me it started with quiet sign making in St. Paul’s Chapel early Friday morning as children put their creative powers to the test telling us, as best they could, climate change must be addressed now. Later the raucous, mega-decibel roar of angry teenagers marching to Battery Park echoed off the skyscrapers representing the global power elite whose capital will be needed to transform our world from climate killing fossil fuels to wind, sun and nuclear power. The crowd crescendo rose as the least imposing person imaginable, Greta Thunberg, took to the stage and rallied the audience. Her young but strong and confident voice assured the movement world leaders will be held accountable and, “We will make them hear us”.
I wish you all could have been there to listen to her and the amazing assembly of young speakers. I could attempt to speak for them but, better yet, here are a few of the signs, their way of telling us what they are thinking.
